What is a Deionizer (DM Plant)?
Deionized water, also known as demineralized water, is water that has all of its mineral ions stripped from it, such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulfate, and nitrate. Since the majority of water impurities are dissolved salts, deionization produces water of similar purity to distilled water—but the process is quicker and does not result in scale buildup. This makes deionizers ideal for laboratories, pharmaceuticals, food processing, electronics manufacturing, and other applications requiring ultra-pure water.

Two Bed DM Plants employ a strong acid cation exchanger and a strong base anion exchanger. This setup successfully minimizes Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) to 2 to 5 ppm, which is appropriate for general industrial applications in most cases.
Mixed Bed DM Plants, however, have both the cation and anion resins in a common unit and produce ultra-pure water with a conductivity of below 0.5 µS/cm. They are utilized as a final polish following two-bed systems or RO systems.
